Skincare for Men in Nigeria on a Budget: The Only 4 Products You Need

Men's skincare marketing can make it look complicated and expensive. In practice, a short routine you actually follow beats an expensive one you abandon after a week.

1. A gentle cleanser

Choose a fragrance-free, non-soap face wash. Harsh bar soaps strip the skin and can increase irritation and oiliness. Wash morning and night, and after workouts.

2. A light moisturiser

Look for "non-comedogenic" or "oil-free" on the label if your skin gets oily in the heat. Use a slightly richer one during harmattan.

3. Sunscreen SPF 30+

Dark skin still benefits from sunscreen, especially to stop razor-bump and breakout marks from darkening. Gel or fluid formulas feel lighter in humid weather.

4. A shaving-bump plan

  • A clipper with a guard or a single-blade razor instead of multi-blade razors.
  • A gentle exfoliant a few nights a week to help hairs exit the skin.
  • Cutting with the grain and never pulling the skin tight.

How to judge if it is working

Give any routine three to four weeks before deciding. Change one product at a time so you know what helped or what irritated. If you have painful, spreading or scarring bumps, see a doctor or dermatologist.
