Oily Skin in Lagos Heat? A Men's Skincare Routine That Keeps It Under Control
Hot, humid cities like Lagos, Port Harcourt and Warri make oily skin feel worse: sweat mixes with oil, traps dirt and can lead to breakouts on the face, chest and back.

Why heat makes skin oilier
Warm temperatures and sweat make skin look and feel greasier, and friction from caps, helmets and gym gear can clog pores. Over-washing to fight shine often backfires by irritating the skin.
Morning
- Wash with a gentle gel cleanser.
- Use an oil-free, non-comedogenic moisturiser — skipping moisturiser can make skin feel tighter and more irritated.
- Apply a light, gel or fluid SPF 30+ sunscreen.
During the day
- Blot shine with a clean tissue instead of washing again and again.
- Shower and change out of sweaty clothes soon after workouts.
- Wash caps, pillowcases and gym towels often.
Evening
- Wash off sweat, sunscreen and dust.
- A few nights a week, use a salicylic acid product to help keep pores clear.
- Moisturise lightly.
When to see a doctor
If breakouts are painful, deep, leave scars or do not improve after a couple of months of a gentle routine, a doctor or dermatologist can recommend proper treatment.
